NORTH ADAMS — The 11th annual Winterfest — under this year's theme, "Sure Cure For the Winter Blues" — will be held Saturday at venues throughout North Adams.

Events include a community breakfast, shopping bargains, skating, music, horse-drawn wagon and trolley rides, and clam chowder tasting.

The events are as follows:

  • 8 to 11 a.m., community breakfast of pancakes, sausage and beverages, at the First Congregational Church, 134 Main St. Cost: $5 for adults; $3 for children. Proceeds benefit the work of the church's youth group.

  • 10:30 a.m., a llama visits North Adams Public Library, children's department, 74 Church St. Children can touch the llama, listen to a story and enjoy free refreshments.

  • Noon to 2 p.m., a chowder cook-off at the St. Anthony Parish Center. Free samples, with donations to benefit the Mohawk Theater Renovation Fund. Top recipes will be selected by popular vote and a juried competition.

  • 1 p.m., the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition's "Say It Proud" awards recognize local youth for positive activities and good choices.

  • Noon to 3 p.m., the historic North Adams trolley runs free rides between the St. Anthony Parish Center and downtown.

  • 1 to 3 p.m., free horse-drawn wagon rides

    up and down Main Street. Assemble at Hoosac Bank, 93 Main St.

  • 6 to 8 p.m., The Grooove presents acoustic performers at 107 Main St.

  • 7 to 9 p.m., the mayor's Free Skating Party at the Vietnam Veteran's Skating Rink, 1237 S. Church St. Rentals, if needed, are $2 a pair.

  • 6 p.m. to midnight, Mount Greylock Bowl hosts "Rock and Bowl" for all ages at the lanes on Roberts Drive. Pick up a coupon at the chowder cook-off and save a dollar on bowling.

    Throughout the day, downtown merchants will offer refreshments, bargains and sales.

    On Thursday, the North Adams Transcript will publish a Winterfest shoppers' sheet. On Saturday, shoppers who have the sheet initialed or stamped by at least five of the participating stores can enter a drawing at the chowder cook-off for a grand prize package of store gift certificates. On Monday, Feb. 25, the winner will be chosen.
