WOODSTOCK, Vt. (AP) -- Mildred Gay was a junior or senior at a Vermont high school when she had to drop out 85 years ago to care for her ailing mother.
It wasn't long before Gay herself was married and raising three children. She never had the chance to finish high school and wished she could.
Now 103, Gay has received an honorary high school diploma from Woodstock Union High School in Woodstock. It's believed she would have graduated with the class of 1927.
The Valley News reports that Gay wore a green graduation gown as she was honored Tuesday at Mertens House, a nursing care home.
