GHENT, N.Y. -- The Ghent Playhouse is holding auditions Monday and Tuesday for its production of "My Cousin Rachel," a dark, character-driven mystery. Jason LaSusa is directing.
Auditions begin at 7:30 p.m. Sign-in is at 7.
Performances will be Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 and Sunday afternoons at 2, Jan. 24 through Feb. 9.
The story deals with young Phillip Ashley who learns of the death of his guardian, whose last months were spent with his lovely and enigmatic cousin, Rachel. Although highly suspicious that she is guilty of murder, once Phillip meets Rachel, he is enchanted and seduced by her.
Roles to be cast are:
n Phillip Ashley, 20s. Important in his Cornish (England) community. Somewhat naïve and sheltered from the larger world.
n Rachel, 30s. Sophisticated, charming, vibrant, accomplished.
n Louise, late teens/early 20s. Smart and understated. Grew up in rural Cornwall, Overshadowed by the worldly Rachel.
n Seecombe, 55+. The family butler
n James, young man. House servant.
n Kendall, 45-55. Country lawyer. Family friend. Louise's father.
n Ranaildi, 35-45. Savvy Italian lawyer and long-time confidante in love with Rachel.
Experience with accents will be helpful.
