Springfield: College offers EKG tech training
The workforce development program at Springfield Technical Community College is offering a 10-week course in EKG Technician Training beginning on Monday, Sept. 17.
The course is designed for individuals who have prior training/experience in the health care field, such as CNAs and phlebotomists, and provides additional training to improve the employer’s skill set and employability.

Great Barrington: Symposium on rural housing
The Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation is holding a regional symposium on housing options in rural Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center.
Admission is free. RSVP is required by Friday, Sept. 14.
New ideas and strategies for creating affordable housing options will be discussed by representatives of the Office of Housing and Urban Development, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and local housing groups. Info: www.housingus.org.
Sheffield: Environmental grants available
The Berkshire Environmental Endowment Fund of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation is accepting applications for its 2012 grant program through Saturday, Sept. 29.
The fund will award $15,000 this year. It invites applications from grassroots organizations for an educational project that will engage Berkshire County youth with water quality and related land resources.
Preference will be given to projects that serve as catalysts to broaden educational opportunities, and those that are likely to have a lasting connection with other educational and environmental programs.
Boston: Gas prices back on the rise in Mass.
After one week of steady prices, the cost of a gallon of gas in Massachusetts is on the rise again.
AAA Southern New England reports Tuesday that self-serve, regular rose three cents in the past week to an average of $3.76 per gallon. The cost has now jumped 18 cents in the past month.
The current price is six cents below the national average but 12 cents higher than at the same time last year.
AAA found self-serve, regular as low as $3.62 per gallon and as high as $3.91.
