Pittsfield: Workshop to focus on green business
The Nonprofit Business Network, a program of the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce in affiliation with 1Berkshire, will present a workshop on the economy and the environment on Thursday, Sept. 20.
"How to Be Lean, Green & Pristine" will run from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall, 414 North St. Admission is $10. The workshop will explore ways in which businesses and nonprofit organizations can save money and the environment at the same time.
Representatives from the Western Massachusetts Electric Co., Berkshire Gas, and the Center for EcoTechnology will be present. The workshop is open to Berkshire Chamber members and non-members.
Berkshires: Cheese makers join state tourist trail
Two Berkshire cheese makers, Berkshire Blue Cheese of Great Barrington, and Cricket Creek Farm Cheese of Williamstown, have been added to the Massachusetts Wine and Cheese Trail.
Nine wineries and seven farmstand producers were added to the trail on Aug. 16. The trail now contains 29 wineries and 18 cheese businesses located from Cape Cod to Berkshire County.
Sheffield: Pittsfield drummer awarded grant
The Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation has awarded the first Tupelo Award to drummer Jerome Edgerton of Pittsfield.
Funded by the foundation, the Tupelo Award offers individuals an opportunity to deepen and enrich an abiding passion or serious interest through study, travel, research and development of a specific project.
Edgerton began drumming at age 2, and was later exposed to a variety of styles including African djembe drums, bucket drums, and traditional drums. His project funded by the award will conclude with a performance at the Barrington Stage Company on Saturday, Oct. 27.
The next deadline to submit applications for the Tupelo Award is Monday, Oct. 15. Residents of the Berkshire Taconic region between the ages of 16 and 36 who demonstrate financial need and other sources of support for their chosen project are eligible.
