LENOX -- Former Berkshire Eagle city editor William Bell will read from and sign copies of his first book of poetry "Picnic in the Rain" at The Bookstore on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.
Bell, who retired from The Eagle in 1992, submitted his first-ever manuscript to the University of Evansville (Indiana) Press, where it won the prestigious Richard Wilbur prize, named in honor of the distinguished (and Berkshire local) poet, reflecting "the thoughtful humanity and careful craftsmanship of Richard Wilbur's poetry."
After leaving his Eagle post after an almost 30-year career, Bell began writing a weekly column on religion and spiritual matters. Although he had written poetry off and on all his life, he began to write more intensively in 1998. All the poems in this book were completed after that date.
The Bookstore is at 11 Housatonic St. Information, call (413) 637 3390 or email email@example.com.
