ADAMS -- Pvt. Robert F. Morey of the U.S. Army, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell F. Morey of 12 Miller St., is now serving with the 2nd Logistical Command at Ft. Lee, Va. Pvt. Morey began his Army service last November and completed basic training at Ft. Dix., N.J.
A 1959 graduate of Adams Memorial High School and a 1963 graduate of North Adams State College, he is on military leave of absence from the faculty of C.T. Plunkett Junior High School.
NORTH ADAMS -- The 31 men and women who conducted the recent successful membership campaign of the YMCA gathered at the Heartwellville (Vt.) Lodge last evening for the annual membership award dinner. Honored among the volunteer workers for leading in the signing up of members were Mrs. Rita Chenail, who topped the entire group of canvassers, Mrs. Mary Ronco, who was second, and Kenneth Hall who was third. 25 years ago today
NORTH ADAMS -- An interfaith celebration of 77 years of Girl Scouting was held Sunday, March 12 at the Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church. Reciting the Girl Scout pledge were Myra Barrett, Amber Smith, Kaycee Rock and Jackie Pierce. Sister Rita Cardin, SSA, provided the music for the celebration. The Rev. William Wilson said grace at the Mother-Daughter Tea held following the celebration.
NORTH ADAMS -- The Rev. Michael Twohig helped entertain audiences attending the St. Patrick’s Day celebration Saturday of St. Francis of Assisi parish held at the St. Anthony parish center. Father Twohig mimicked Giuseppi Sarducci (Father Guido Sarducci’s brother) and later portrayed a Scotsman.

NORTH ADAMS -- Charles H. McCann Technical School’s standout on the basketball court has distinguished herself among the state’s vocational technical students by winning the 2005 Massachusetts Vocational Association Secondary Award.
Heather LaCasse of North Adams, a senior in McCann’s carpentry program, is the first student in the school’s history to receive the award, according to Superintendent James Brosnan.
ADAMS -- Carole Kalisz’s St. Stanislaus seventh graders recently presented Charles Pierce Burton’s "The Boys of Bob’s Hill" for their families and the school’s eighth-grade students. The book tells of growing up in the town of Adams at the turn of century and is based on the author’s boyhood adventures while he lived at the base of Bob’s Hill until he was 12 years old. Students Meghan Oswain, Travis Dargie, Joshua Gould, Laura Pratt, Victoria Hilchey, Mariah Cwalinski, and Kelsy Pero recreated the book’s characters.
