NORTH ADAMS -- John Hay summer fellowships in the humanities have been awarded to two teachers from Mount Greylock Regional High School and one from Drury High School.
The recipients are Miss Edna F. Lunney and John D. Glasheen of Mt. Greylock Regional and Francis C. Merrigan of Drury. All three will attend the Summer Institute in the Humanities at Williams College from July 2 to Aug. 1.
CLARKSBURG -- Richard Quirk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Quirk of Houghton St., has enlisted in the U.S. Army for three years. He is at Ft. Dix, N.J., where he will have eight weeks of basic training.
He attended Briggsville School and Drury High School and at the time of his enlistment was employed by the Howard Johnson Restaurant in Williamstown. 25 years ago today
NORTH ADAMS -- Representing the top Western Mass. swimmers in the area in the New England Age Group Championships held recently at Springfield College were Chad Filiault, Stephanie, Matthew and Joel Glogowski, Justin Filiault and Kristie Kleiner. They accomplished personal-best times and home pool records in representing the Berkshires.
CHESHIRE -- William A. Lewis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry G. Lewis, has received a full four-year Army ROTC scholarship, one of only 1,500 awarded to high school seniors in the United States.
A member of the senior class at Hoosac Valley High School, he will attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Fla., where he will major in aeronautical science. Upon graduating, he will have a multi-engine commercial pilot rating and will be commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

NORTH ADAMS -- The Peace Party Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution have announced the four area winners of the DAR Good Citizens Award.
The recipients are Rebecca Cook of C.H. McCann Technical High School, Kara Senecal of Drury High School, Brendan Russell of Hoosac Valley High School, and Amanda Bell of Mount Greylock Regional High School.
NORTH ADAMS -- The 2003-04 All Transcript Girls’ Basketball Team includes the following players: Drury’s Leanne Martin and Michele Boudreau, Hoosac Valley’s Allison Wiencek, McCann’s Heather Lacasse and Mt. Greylock’s Sara Miller.
LaCasse was named the offensive Most Valuable Player. Boudreau was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Hoosac Valley sophomore center Nikki Kalisz is the Transcript’s Rookie of the Year.
