Berkshire Writers Room is announcing its Summer of Inspiration by sponsoring four special workshops, free and open to the public. These special workshops are for those who always wanted to write but never got to it, up to seasoned writers who would like to look at their work in a different way. All the workshops are to be at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts in Pittsfield.
Chapbook Making with Jhena Plourde takes place Thurs., July 11, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Writing Memoir with Bob Balogh will be Thurs., July 25, 7-9 p.m. Self-Publishing a Book with Jhena Plourde and Molly Tabachnikov is on Thurs., Aug. 8, 6:30-8:30 p.m. On Thurs., Aug. 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. will be Self-Publishing Audio/Musical Material with Peter Loboda.

The Bookstore in Lenox announces a summer schedule of readings, beginning this coming Tuesday, featuring national best-selling authors, academy award winners as well as local poets and writers. Local architect Tician Papachristou, author of recently published memoir "Other Times, Other Places," will read from and discuss his book at The Bookstore in Lenox at 5 p.m. on Tue., July 9.
An idyllic childhood ends when the Germans occupy Greece during WWII. There are cadavers in the street and Nazi teachers in the schools. The young man emigrates to the U.S. but not without witnessing history in his own backyard, from seeing Hitler in Berlin and cheering Churchill in Athens.

Later in July essayist Patsy Vigderman, Tyringham author Thomas Dyja, novelist Charles McCarry and award winning Lincoln historian Michael Burlingame will read from and speak about their books. In August Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis, who is appearing this summer in Shakespeare and Company's production of Bertold Brecht's "Mother Courage and Her Children," will speak about the play and her roles in various theater productions.
