Pittsfield: Berkshire Gas earns safety honors
Berkshire Gas Co. and its employees were recognized for achieving an outstanding record for employee safety during 2011 at a recent meeting of the American Gas Association in San Francisco.
The company received the organization's Safety Achieve ment Award for Vehicle Safety for having the lowest motor vehicle accident rate for AGA member companies in the Untied States with 1 million or less total fleet miles driven last year.
Of the 18 companies in this category, Berkshire Gas experienced no reportable motor vehicle accidents during 2011 with a total of 745,255 miles driven by the company's 75 vehicles.
Berkshire Gas President and COO Karen Zink was present to receive the award at a meeting that was attended by more than 800 representatives of the U.S. natural gas industry.
Founded in 1918, the American Gas Association represents more than 200 local energy companies that deliver natural gas throughout the United States.
Lee: IEEE to hold consultants network dinner
Roger Manzolini will present "Income from Credit Spreads" when the Berkshire Section of The Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers holds a Berkshire consultants network dinner meeting on Friday at the Cork N' Hearth Restaurant.

Sheffield: Grants fund summer programs
Eleven Berkshire County residents are among the 14 young people who have received $2,750 in grants from The Simple Gifts Fund, an endowment of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.
Established in 1998, The Simple Gifts Fund gives annual grants to young people ages 8-21 for cultural and creative summer programs.
This year's Berkshire County recipients are: Hannah Cohen, and Emilia and Isabella Johnson-Viola of Lee; Elias Garival tis, Haedyn and Finn Gerow, Hunter Hassett, and Ella Long of Great Barrington; Kathryn Sirois of Stockbridge; Cheyanne Slocum of Pittsfield; and Lydia Vreeland of West Stockbridge.
