Pittsfield: BYP to host networking social tonight

The Berkshire Young Professionals will hold a networking social Thursday night at the Berkshire Museum, 39 South St. The hours are 5 to 7 p.m.

Admission is free for BYP cardholders, or with a gift for the Holiday Wish Program, or $5 for non-cardholders and those without gift cards.

Great Barrington: Environmental leader to speak

Gus Speth, environmental leader and law professor at the Vermont School of Law, will speak Friday at a free public talk hosted by the Berkshire Office of the New Economics Institute.

The event takes place at 7:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 251 Main St.

Speth will present his new book, "America the Possible," which is about the future of the United States economy, a system having reached an impasse as evidenced in extreme weather patterns, the loss of America's middle class, and exploding ecological catastrophes.

A reception and book signing will take place after Speth speaks.

Pittsfield: Fairview, Hillcrest president honored

Eugene A. Dellea, the president of Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington and the Hillcrest Campus of Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, has been named the winner of the 2012 Esther Quinn Award, which is presented by the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce.

Dellea will receive the award on Tuesday at the chamber's annual meeting at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The meeting begins at 7:30 a.m.

The award was established in 1999 to honor the memory of Esther Quinn, a former chamber volunteer and advocate for volunteer efforts.

The Quinn Award is presented to a person who either lives or works in Berkshire County, and shows enthusiasm, empathy and effort in making the Berkshires a better place to live and work.
