Pittsfield: BMC Cancer Program earns honors
Berkshire Medical Center's Cancer Program has received a three-year accreditation with commendation from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons, the highest rating that the commission awards.
This is the third consecutive three-year accreditation with commendation that BMC's Cancer Program has received. The program also received two outstanding achievement awards from the commission in the only two years that BMC was eligible to receive them.
The hospital demonstrated a commendation level in compliance with all standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program, including cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach and quality improvement. BMC also achieved compliance ratings for all other standards.
There are currently more than 1,500 Commission on Cancer-accredited cancer programs in the US and Puerto Rico, representing about 30 percent of all hospitals.
