Sheffield: Travel fund awards $14,000 in grants

Seven young people and one nonprofit organization have received grants totaling $14,000 from the Alice and Richard Henriquez Fund/Youth World Awareness Program, which is a fund of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.

The program supports travel and humanitarian work in foreign countries by young people ages 14-22.

The Berkshire County residents who received grants are: Maggie Bouvier of Pittsfield; Harrison Dilthey of North Adams; Kiana Estime of Monterey; Jennifer Evans of Richmond; Kirsten Thorn and Curtis Kelley of Housatonic; and Hallie Walker of Williamstown.

The next deadline for the Alice and Richard Henriquez Fund/Youth World Awareness Program grant application is Feb. 1, 2014. Applications are available online at www.berkshiretaconic.org/grantseekers.

Berkshires: Dial-A-Lawyer will offer free legal advice

Western Massachusetts residents can receive free legal advice on Tuesday through the Massachusetts Bar Association's semiannual Dial-A-Lawyer call-in program.

Volunteer lawyers from the MBA will field phone calls from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. from residents of Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire counties who have legal concerns or problems. The legal advice is provided at no charge.

Lee: Engineers set to give talk on solar electricity

The Berkshire Section of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers will conduct a presentation on solar electricity when it meets on Thursday, June 6 at the Cork ‘N Hearth Restaurant on Route 20.

Roger Manzolini, a power systems engineer at General Dynamics, and Cara Humphrey, a solar consultant at Astrum Solar, will present, "Photo-voltaic power for your home."

Cocktails take place at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 and then the presentation. The reservation deadline is Monday, June 3.
