Great Barrington: BerkShares directory slated for updating
To accommodate the growth in the BerkShares community during the last three months, the BerkShares organization will reprint its pocket directory at the beginning of 2014 to include all the new businesses that accept the Berkshire Region's currency.
BerkShares are a way for Berkshire residents to keep their money circulating in the local economy, thereby supporting local business owners, their employees, and the local tax base. Federal dollars can be exchanged for BerkShares at 13 branches of Berkshire Bank, Lee Bank, Lenox National Bank, Pittsfield Co-op Bank and Salisbury Bank & Trust.
To be included in the new directory, BerkShare Business directory business owners must register by Friday, Jan. 24.

Pittsfield: BMC receives honors from Leapfrog Group
Berkshire Medical Center has again achieved high marks for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group, an independent national group that grades hospitals on preventable medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections.
For the third consecutive time, BMC has been honored with an "A" Hospital Safety Score, with the latest designation coming in the Leapfrog Fall rankings for 2013.
Calculated under the guidance of the Leapfrog Group's nine-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score that graded BMC with an "A" grade uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital's overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors.
