Berkshire top SBA lender in New York, Connecticut

The U.S. Small Business Administration has recognized Berkshire Bank as the top SBA lender for fiscal 2015 within the large community lender group in both Central New York and New York's Capital District.

The bank was also named top lender of the quarter in Connecticut for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2015.

Berkshire totaled 105 loans for small businesses in the Capital Region for $5.875 million. Berkshire Bank was responsible for 187 SBA 7(a) loan approvals totaling more than $9 million at the district level.

In Central New York, Berkshire Bank totaled 81 loans for small businesses for $3.171 million.

In Connecticut, Berkshire closed quarter four with 25 loan approvals, ending the fiscal year with 41, an increase of two loans from fiscal 2014.

Restaurant chain raises funds for Boys & Girls Clubs

The Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub chain, which operates an eatery in Pittsfield, raised $609,000 for 65 local chapters of the Boys and Girls Club during its annual fundraiser during the month of October.

All 105 Ninety Nine locations in New England and New York participated. This is the 19th year that the chain has partnered with the Boys and Girls Club.



Goodwill of Berkshires opening another store in Vermont

Goodwill of the Berkshires and Southern Vermont has leased 10,000 square feet of space in Rutland, Vt., where it plans to open a new retail store and donation center.

The site is at 230 North Main St., #6. Goodwill is planning to open the Rutland retail outlet in March. It will initially have between eight and 12 employees.

The non-profit organization operates a total of four other stores in western Massachusetts and southern Vermont.
