Salisbury Bank shreds 9,000 pounds of paper
Salisbury Bank shredded and recycled 9,880 pounds of paper at its first two Shred Day events, which took place at bank branches in Dover Plains, N.Y. on May 7, and in Sheffield on May 21.
The bank is holding four additional shred days this year, including one at its Great Barrington branch on Saturday, Sept. 10.
Each person can bring up to four boxes of paper without binders for shredding by Legal Shed personnel to any site on the day of the events between 9 a.m. and noon.
VIM Berkshires receives Medical Society grant
Volunteers in Medicine, Berkshires in Great Barrington has received a $25,000 grant from the Massachusetts Medical Society & Alliance Charitable Foundation as part of the foundation's 2016 charitable allocations.
The grant will help to support the clinic's Non-Opiod Pain Management Program, which uses acupuncture, massage, behavioral health and nutrition counseling to address chronic and episodic pain and prevent the use of opiods.
The grant is one of 15 made in 2016 by the Foundation to agencies across the commonwealth. The Foundation is a supporting organization of the Massachusetts Medical Society.
Medicine practice celebrates 30th anniversary
Lonny Jarrett celebrated the 30th anniversary of opening his Chinese medicine practice at the Stockbridge Health Center on June 1.
The first full-time practitioner of Chinese medicine in the Berkshires, Jarrett opened his practice on June 1, 1986 on the third floor of the Seven Arts building on Main Street. He ran a free treatment program for people with HIV for five years in the early 1990s.
