Chaffee named president of state organization

Porchlight VNA/Home Care President and CEO Holly Chaffee was recently elevated to president of the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts' Board of Directors.

The nonprofit trade organization represents more than 200 home care and home health agencies across the state.

A registered nurse with 30 years of experience in healthcare, Chaffee has previously served as vice president of the Alliance's board.

BTCF announces third round of grant deadlines

The Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation has announced its third round of deadlines for competitive grants in 2016. The deadlines cover the period from July to September.

For nonprofits: Harvard Business School's "Governing for Excellence Scholarship", applications are due Aug. 8. The Artist's Resource Trust Fund for Organizations, applications are due Aug. 1. The Berkshire Environment Endowment Fund, applications are due Aug. 1.

Artists: Artists Resource Trust Fund, applications are due Aug. 1. The Martha Boschen Porter Fund, applications are due July 15.

Single-family home sales remain strong in May

The sales of single-family homes in Berkshire County increased 34.9 percent in May compared to the same month last year, according to the Warren Group of Boston, which tracks state real estate transactions.

A total of 116 single-family homes were sold last month compared to 86 in May 2015. Year-to-date, the sales of single-family homes in the Berkshires are up 34.4 percent from 361 in 2015 to 485 this year.

Condominium sales, however, dropped 7.7 percent in May, while year-to-date sales are down 4.7 percent.

Statewide, single family-home sales rose by 20.9 percent in May, as 5,297 dwelling were sold compared to 4,382 in May 2015.

Year-to-date, state single family home sales are up 28.2 percent. State condo sales were up 9 percent in May.
