State consumers to receive $9 million in E-book refunds

State residents who purchased electronic books (E-books) will begin to receive additional account credits or checks as a result of the successful prosecution of a price-fixing case against Apple Inc., according to Attorney General Maura Healey.

Consumers nationwide will receive more than $400 million. State consumers will receive $9 million.

In July 2013, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York ruled that Apple conspired with five major U.S. publishers to raise the retail prices of E-books, in violation of federal and state antitrust laws.

Berkshire Co-op Market behind BerkShares 100 percent

The Berkshire Co-op Market is now accepting BerkShares for 100 percent of any in-store purchases.

This change in policy represents a major shift for Great Barrington's cooperatively owned market because the Co-op had previously been accepting only 50 percent of any given purchase in BerkShares.

BerkShares are the local currency for Berkshire County. Citizens can exchange federal dollars for BerkShares at 16 branch offices of Adams Community Bank, Lee Bank, Pittsfield Cooperative Bank and Salisbury Bank and Trust Company.

Gelinas promoted at BFAIR

Theresa Gelinas has been promoted to director of program operations for day services at Berkshire Family and Individual Resources, the organization has announced.

A member of the BFAIR team since 2001, Gelinas most recently served as the director of habilitative services.

In her new role, Gelinas will be responsible for the supervision of the day habilitation program, homecare services, vocational services, and other ancillary services.
