There were no injuries, according to Police Chief Ronald Glidden. The incident happened at about 5 p.m. The driver of the vehicle was headed east on Route 20 when he attempted to execute a turn at the intersection of Route 20 and Chestnut Street to head the other way.
During the turnaround, the trailer became hung up on a guardrail, Glidden said.
Police tried to get the trailer off the guardrail by using a tow truck but were unsuccessful.
Eventually, said Glidden, the Jaws of Life were used to cut out the guardrails to get the truck free. The incident is under investigation, and the owner of the tractor-trailer company will be charged with the cost of replacing the guardrails that were removed, he said.
Traffic was rerouted onto Route 8 through Washington and Becket for several hours, police said.
