NORTH ADAMS — Five student musicians recently were chosen to represent Drury High School at the Massachusetts Western District Music Festival being held Jan. 10 and 17 in Amherst.

The festival is a yearly event sponsored by the Massachusetts Music Educators Association. Adjudicators for the auditions are primarily college music instructors or conductors.

Following two rigorous days of rehearsals, members of the Western District Orchestra, Jazz Band, Chorus and Concert Band present a public concert on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 3 p.m., in the Fine Arts Center on the campus of the University of Massachusetts

Vocalist Ross Betti will sing bass in this year's District Chorus. The District Concert Band will include Max Quinn, trumpet; Samantha Bator, clarinet; and tuba player Andrew Rosenburg. Percussionist Avery Witherell will perform with the Western District Orchestra.

In addition to being accepted into the Western District Music Festival, three musicians, Andrew Rosenburg, Max Quinn and Ross Betti, also received All-State Recommendations.

An All-State Recommendation enables a student to audition for the All-State Music Festival held annually in March in Boston. To receive an All-State Recommendation the student must finish in the top 50 percent of all those students chosen to participate at the district level.
