LENOX -- Two separate groups have established reward funds in the aftermath of the murders of Chocolate and Prada, the River Valley Farm llamas that were shot and killed with arrows this past weekend.

The Berkshire County League of Sportsmen posted a reward of at least $500 for information resulting in the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the killings.

And WBRK "Talk Berkshires" host Sherman Baldwin started a fund on air Tuesday, contributing $200 of his own money. The amount quickly shot up, with one listener, Allen Harris, pledging $250 and a host of others bumping the total to $1,200 by show's end.

Baldwin said the senseless nature of the incident stuck with him and his listeners.

"The whole thing about these animals in a pasture left to suffer and die for no reason at all, it's just despicable," Baldwin said.

Mark Jester, president of the BCLS, said the incident gives hunters a black eye.

"This is deliberate and goes against everything we believe in," he said.

Lisa Dachinger, the llamas' owner, said she was touched by the outpouring of support.

"It's incredibly generous," she said. "We're used to experiencing death out here on the farm, but to have this kind of death is very upsetting."

The animals were found dead Sunday morning in a farm pasture along New Lenox Road. State Environmental Police found arrows lodged behind their rib cages and one

arrow on the ground nearby.

The killings, Dachinger said, likely occurred between 11 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday.
