STOCKBRIDGE - John H. "Jack" Fitzpatrick, one of Berkshire County's most influential business, political and philanthropic figures of the past 50 years, has died.

Fitzpatrick, a former state senator and co-owner with his wife, Jane, of the Red Lion Inn, Country Curtains and other local businesses, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, according to family members.

He was 88.

"Clearly his passing is the end of a legend," said state Rep. William "Smitty" Pignatelli of Lenox. "I don't think the Berkshires will see again the likes of someone like Jack Fitzpatrick."
