HANCOCK -- Police have identified the New York man who died in a two-vehicle collision on Brodie Mountain Road on Friday night.
Preliminary reports show Michael Demick, 24, of Stephentown, N.Y., was traveling westbound in a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado on Brodie Mountain Road at 8:09 p.m. on Friday when his vehicle crossed over the double yellow line and crashed into an oncoming vehicle, according to state police. Emergency crews responded to the scene at 8:30 p.m., with EMTs from Village Ambulance pronounced Demick dead shortly after.
Demick struck a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado and the trailer it was towing, according to police. Demick's vehicle sustained heavy damage and caught fire before coming to a rest. The two occupants of the other vehicle helped to extinguish the fire with assistance from other witnesses.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but speed is being considered a factor.
The two individuals from the second vehicle -- a 31-year-old male from Greenfield Center, N.Y. and a 23-year-old male from Warwick -- were taken to North Adams Regional Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Their names were not released.
The crash is being investigated by Troop B of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the Berkshire County State Police Detective Unit.
State Police were assisted at the scene by Hancock Fire and Rescue.
