There is one guarantee for this week's Pewter Cup at Berkshire Hills Country Club -- there will be new champions.
Last year's winners in the best-ball event, Connecticut's Brent Dietz and Bill Tefft, are not in the field.
However, last year's second- and third-place teams will be playing. The Berkshire Hills brother combination of Jeff and Rick Puleri, second in 2011, and Worthington Coun try Club's James Ryan and Steve Magargal will be among the favored teams in the 54-hole event.
Based on recent form, another Berkshire Hills team, John Dahrouge and Matt Ortega, are also likely to be in the title hunt. They captured this year's Allied two-ball title at the Country Club of Pittsfield and won the consolation final in last week's CC of Pittsfield Men's Classic Invitational.
Two other teams are coming off strong performances. Wah conah Country Club's Paul Briggs and Ron Carver shot a 4-under 67 last weekend to win a two-ball title at their home club while Berkshire Hills' Jim Warren and former Hills club champion Bob Linn were second in the Stockbridge Trophy.
Other top teams include Ralph Dastoli-Mike Bauer, Mike Daniels-Charlie Murphy, Scott Hunter-Dave Hathaway, and Pewter Cup newcomers Brodie Conant and K.C. Fin ley.
