PITTSFIELD -- A city woman and her two young children escaped serious injury following a one-car crash in front of St. Joseph Central High School early Monday evening.
Shortly before 6:15 p.m., Jaime Finn of Pittsfield was driving east on Maplewood Avenue when she apparently got distracted and slammed her Buick Lucerne head-on into a city-owned light pole, according to Pittsfield police.
The impact of the collision snapped off the wooden pole, which fell across the road, blocking traffic. The pole did not contain live wires.
Police say when they and rescuers arrived, Finn, her daughter and son -- all of whom were buckled up in the Buick -- were out of the vehicle, walking around.
Nevertheless, all three were taken to Berkshire Medical Center for precautionary treatment and released, police said.
So far, no charges have been filed against Finn as the crash remains under investigation.
Maplewood, between North and First streets, was closed to through traffic until the scene was cleared by 7 p.m.
