This letter is in response to Jeffrey Herman’s June 18 letter, "Creator gave us right of choice." Mr. Herman wrote, "Christians and Jews are obligated to support the right to same gender marriage because freedom is the Creator’s most precious gift after life itself." Clearly, Mr. Herman is misguided in his interpretation of Scriptures.

Yes, God did give us free will to choose good or evil, but in order to truly be free, we must not use "freedom as a pretext for evil, but as servants of God." (1 pt. 2:16). It really is blasphemous when people use the Bible to justify evil. Anyone who has read the Bible cover to cover should know that homosexual relations are strongly condemned in both the Old and New Testament. "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman, such a thing is an abomination." (Leviticus 18-22) Romans 1:26-32 and 1 Cor. 6:8) strongly condemn it too.

It’s very dangerous for people to interpret Scripture on their own. St. Peter writes, "There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction.") (2 Pt 3:16). And he said, "no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation." (2 Pt. 1:20). The Bible is the word of God and is the truth, but in the words of Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman, "what good is an infallible Bible without an infallible interpreter?"

And who is this infallible interpreter?

It’s the one true Church, led by the Pope, which was given the keys to the kingdom of Heaven by Jesus, and whatever it "binds on Earth is bound in Heaven.

" Satan knows who his enemy is, and he has targeted the Catholic Church. Any wonder why secularists/atheists have such hatred for the Church?

So while the Bible is infallible, people make mistakes interpreting it. The Bible tells us where the truth is to be found. It’s in the household of God, which is the Church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth." (ITm 3:15).

Gay marriage is "not about equality," gay activist Paul Varnell wrote in the Chicago Free Press. "The gay movement, whether we acknowledge it or not, is not a civil rights movement, not even a sexual liberation movement, but a moral revolution aimed at changing people’s view of homosexuality."

They have been outed. This is their agenda, not equality. MIKE RACHIELE
