CHICOPEE, Mass. (AP) -- State police say a 10-year-old boy is safe after being picked up while riding his bicycle in the high-speed lane of a busy interstate highway in western Massachusetts during the morning commute.
Sgt. Alan Joubert tells the Republican newspaper of Springfield (http://bit.ly/MCF10v ) that police received numerous calls from motorists shortly after 7:30 a.m. on Thursday about a young boy pedaling his bicycle on Interstate 391 in Chicopee.
Joubert said the boy was riding near the concrete barrier in the high-speed lane. Police officers picked up the boy, took him home and "had a chat with his parents."
Bicycles are prohibited on the interstate and Joubert says he didn't know how the boy was able to get onto the highway.
