PITTSFIELD -- A campaign swing by first lady Michelle Obama through Western Massachusetts on Aug. 3 will include a fundraising concert with James Taylor at the Colonial Theatre at $150 per ticket and a discussion with 25 invited guests hosted by Gov. Deval Patrick at his second home in Richmond.
Taylor has performed frequently at public and private campaign events during President Obama's campaign this year. He also assisted with Mr. Obama's 2008 campaign and performed during Inauguration Day parties in Washington, D.C.
Kim Taylor, wife of the singer-songwriter, told The Eagle on Tuesday morning that the arrangements were confirmed over the weekend but the Taylors had been asked by the White House not to discuss the plans.
The campaign swing by Mrs. Obama begins with a $2,500 a ticket luncheon at the National Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield on Aug. 3. Organizers revealed the plans to the Daily Hampshire Gazette newspaper and website Monday night.
Leaders of the Colonial Theatre were meeting Tuesday morning to finalize still to be announced plans for ticket distribution to the event at the Pittsfield venue.
Former first lady Laura Bush visited the Berkshires in 2006 to help raise funds for The Mount in Lenox. Then-first lady Hillary Clinton came in 1998 to help fundraising efforts for the Colonial Theatre as well as The Mount as part of the Save America's Treasures campaign.
