SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) -- A pilot and his passenger had to hitch a ride to shore with boaters after their float plane capsized in Saratoga Lake.

Police say 58-year-old Richard Skevington, who lives on the lake near Saratoga Springs, landed his float plane near his home Saturday afternoon. When he turned off the motor, he noticed water building up in the pontoons, and then the plane toppled over.

Skevington's wife and others called 911 when they saw only the plane's pontoons sticking out of the water.

State police said the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate.
