STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Berkshire Force bowed out of the 12-Under New England Regional girls softball tournament on Sunday, following 7-1 to North Country, N.H.
The Force managed just two hits in their final game of pool play. Natasha Shade and Hayley Tobin had the hits while Kailey Bell scored the team's only run on a fielder's choice.
"We had a couple opportunities and they made a couple nice plays on us defensively," said Berkshire manager Tom Murphy. "Just one of those games."
The Force split on the first day of the tournament, beating Gorham, Maine 8-5 after losing to Kingston, 2-1. Ashley Keegan and Julia Murphy pitched against Gorham and struck out seven.
Tobin and Kasey Sondrini each had two hits and two RBI in that win. Britney Perkett and Murphy added two hits each.
Against Kingston, Tobin had a hit and drove in the only run for the Force. Bell had two hits. Murphy pitched, giving up two runs on seven hits.
"The kids did a good job," Tom Murphy said. "We just missed."
Pittsfield 2, Nashua 1
NASHUA, N.H. -- Travis Smith doubled home Chad Funkhouser in the eighth inning to lead Pittsfield to a 2-1 victory over Nashua.
Shane Beauchemin earned the win for the Suns, allowing just one hit over four inning of relief. Starter Dan Bradley wasn't bad either. He allowed just three hits and a lone run while striking out three in five innings.
The Silver Knights actually scored first in this one though, plating a run on a double from James Katsiroubas in the third. Pittsfield tied it up the very next inning when Zach Theulen drove in Jimmy Ricoy on a sacrifice fly to left field.
