NORTH ADAMS -- Former Pittsfield Public Schools Super intendent How ard "Jake" Eberwein III of Dalton has joined the Massachusetts Coll ege of Liberal Arts as its new dean of graduate and continuing education.
Eberwein graduated from MCLA’s masters of education program in 2003, and earned his principal certification as a graduate of the college’s Leadership Academy of the Berkshires in 2002.
"I look forward to working collaboratively with the MCLA leadership team, faculty and community in ex panding high quality educational opportunities for the citizens of Berkshire County and beyond," Eberwein said in a press release.
Cynthia Brown, MCLA vice president of academic affairs said, "Jake is an accomplished and dedicated educator who will be an outstanding leader for our graduate and continuing education programs."
Eberwein spent 18 years as an educator and an administrator in the public schools of Berkshire County, most re cently as superintendent of Pittsfield Public Schools, from 2008 until June of this year.
While serving as superintendent, Eberwein was a guest lecturer at the Uni versity of Massachusetts at Amherst and an adjunct faculty member of MCLA and American International College.
Eberwein holds a doctorate of education from UMass-Amherst. He earned his bachelor of arts degree in biology-chemistry from Skidmore College.
Prior to entering education, Eberwein was owner/operator of a general contracting business and maintains his license in construction supervision.
He serves on the boards of Berkshire United Way and Berkshire Museum, and coaches in the Dalton Rec reation League.
