HANCOCK -- A pair of drivers escaped serious injury Monday morning after their vehicles collided on Route 43 and into a nearby building, according to state police.

Troopers from the Cheshire barracks say the crash occurred around 8 a.m. when a dump truck slammed into the back of a motor home in front of Bob's Camper & RV Inc., a mile north of the Hancock Elementary School. The impact sent both vehicles into the business' storage barn, 15 feet off the road.

The names of the drivers and whether any charges will be filed were unavailable Monday morning. Police were still investigating the accident as of noontime. Police said one of the drivers was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Bob Gaskill, owner of Bob's Camper & RV, told The Eagle the motor home was attempting a left turn onto the driveway entering the business, when the 24-foot camper was stuck by the truck.

While Gaskill and his staff didn't see the crash, they heard it.

"It sound like a cannon going off," he said.

No one was in the building, which was heavily damaged.

"It was knocked off the foundation," Gaskill noted. "I would consider it a total loss."
