DALTON -- The Dalton Cemetery Trustees unanimously support moving the Women’s Memorial from the front of Dalton Town Hall to the Main Street Cemetery, according to Ed Cady, the trustees chairman.
After a meeting on Monday, the trustees sent a letter to Town Manager Kenneth Walto Tuesday, supporting the move, Cady said.
The Women’s Memorial will go alongside two other memorial plaques on the side of The Mound, a small hill within Main Street Cemetery.
"Our target is to have it in place for the Memorial Day ceremony next spring," Cady said. "We’re not going to move it in the middle of winter."
Since Veteran’s Day 1999, the Women’s Memorial has been nestled in front of the Dalton Town Hall. It honors all Dalton women that have served to protect the country.
Gail Pinna, co-chairwoman and secretery of the Dalton Historical Commission, has taken care of the memorial for the 13 years it’s been out there.
"That’s where the Historical Commission wanted it in the first place," Pinna said. "It’s a done deal now. It will be taken care of in the cemetery. I have no problems with that."
