Mad Macs, Inc., Berkshire County's only retail outlet for Apple products and accessories, has achieved a designation within that company that will allow the store to sell both iPads and mini-iPads in time for the Christmas shopping season. Apple released its most recent iPad model on Nov. 2.
"We're actually anticipating them next week," said Mad Macs co-owner Scott Kirchner on Friday. "We have an order on hold. We're waiting for the final switch, as they say, to be turned on."

That approval came when Mad Macs achieved Apple specialist designation within the
Apple reserves its specialist designation for independent Apple affiliates who have exhibited a strong commitment to the Macintosh platform, and have either met or exceeded the company's highest level of sales and service authorizations.
"It means a lot," Kirchner said. "It's one more piece of the Apple puzzle that we will have available to us. It makes us all things Apple in the Berkshires.
"We have people who are trained real well," he said. "I think that iPad is the next step for us."
The iPad is a line of tablet computers that Apple Inc. first released in April 2010. The device can perform a variety of functions that allows the user to shoot video, take photographs, play music, receive email, and perform Internet searches.
