PITTSFIELD -- City police are urging residents to keep their vehicles secured at all times following several thefts from unlocked cars over the weekend.

Two homeowners on Mountain Drive and one along Bartlett Avenue discovered a number of items, mostly electronics, missing from their cars Sunday morning, police said Sunday afternoon.

The thefts likely occurred late Saturday night or in the pre-dawn hours of Sunday.

One resident lost a portable dvd player, two cameras, a watch and expensive sunglasses, according to police reports.

Sgt. Mark Bushey said that the majority of thefts from vehicles occur when they are unlocked.

But Bushey noted even locked vehicles can be a target, especially during the holiday shopping season.

"If you're out shopping, cover up the gifts with a blanket or put them in the trunk," Bushey.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to contact the Pittsfield Police Department at (413) 448-9700.
