PITTSFIELD -- The Mount Greylock wrestling team won just one more match than Taconic, but the Braves left some valuable points on the mat in a 48-30 Mounties win.

The Braves forfeited four matches, which meant they needed pins in their contested matches to keep pace, but two of the matches went by way of decision. Greylock's wins were by pin and forfeit, giving it six points for each match.

"We know that when we walk into dual meet if we don't win the vast majority of matches right now, we're in a bad spot," Matt Chamberlain. "It hurts us right now. We got some kids out of the lineup [for various reasons]."

Greylock's CJ Lillie picked up a key pin for the Mounties in the third period, just 36 seconds from overtime in the 138-pound class. Taconic's Dave Jones (220 pounds) had the quickest pin of the match, just 39 seconds.

Monument 66, Everett 18

SHEFFIELD -- Four forfeits put the Eagles behind off the bat, but the Spartans didn't take that for granted. Monument won seven of the 10 contested matches by pin, claiming all six points in each of those matches for a commanding victory. Five of those pins came in the first period.

"I thought our kids wrestled really well," Monument coach Gordie Soule said. "We did cradles and halves. I thought we were fundamentally sound, and I thought we were fit."

Soule pointed to wins by Jordan Stuber in the 132-pound weight class, pinning his man in 3:50. He also pointed to the match at 138 pounds where Stephen Cormier earned a pin at 6:36 in a back-and-forth battle.

Pat and Matt Fosby earned wins for Everett, as did Bradley Lupiani.

Wahconah sweeps Hoosac

PITTSFIELD -- The Hurricanes had a rough day in the pool against Wahconah, dropping both the boys' and the girls' meets. The Warrior boys won 92-38, while the girls won 94-73.

For the boys, they again couldn't overcome their low numbers. The Hurricanes' lone win came from Keith Pero, who claimed first place in the 500 freestyle. His time of 5 minutes, 46.50 seconds was more than 40 seconds faster than second place. Pero also picked up a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:33.06).

Wahconah was led by a dual win from Kyle Miller (200 IM and 100 fly). Both teams picked up seven second- and third-place finishes, but the 10 first-place results for Wahconah were too much.

The girls' meet proved to be far more even. Hoosac claimed seven events (five individual and two relay), but 18 second- and third-place Wahconah finishes propelled the Warriors to the lead.

Emily and Julia Whitney each won two individual events for Hoosac. Emily claimed the 500 free and 100 back, while her sister won in the 200 IM and 100 breast. Liz Bernardy had the other individual win for Hoosac.

Courtney Daley (200 free and 100 fly) was the lone dual winner for Wahconah, but the Warriors finished second and third in seven of the 11 races. They swept the 200 free.

Taconic, New Lebanon split

NEW LEBANON, N.Y. -- George Sommerville won both the 200 and 500-yard freestyle races to help the Braves salvage a split.

Sommerville's performance was part of a 50-29 win for Taconic in the boys meet. The New Lebanon girls prevailed 54-39.

Katarina Lichak and Hannah French were double winners for New Lebanon in the girls victory. Taconic got a pair of victories from Gillian Campbell in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Hockey

Taconic 7, St. Joe's 2

PITTSFIELD -- Brian Bonacquisti continued his hot start for the Braves, netting another four goals, while adding an assist in the win.

He opened the scoring just 42 seconds in and Nick Whittaker doubled the lead at the 5:04 mark.

"We just came out very flat," St. Joseph's coach Tim Kelly said. "I know they weren't underestimating Taconic. We just were not quite ready to get into the game."

Eric Leitch pulled St. Joseph's to with 2-1 with a goal at the 1:12 mark of the second period, but three consecutive Taconic goals before the period expired pushed the lead to 5-1. Bonacquisti had the first two of those goals.

Taconic added a pair of goals in the final 1:34 to take a three-goal lead to five.

Spenser Tanner made 22 saves in goal for St. Joseph's. Andrew Leitch is still out after a collision last week. He could be back for Friday's game. Brendan Leary made 20 stops for Taconic.
