PITTSFIELD -- Two men who admitted dealing crack cocaine and heroin out of an Adams motel last summer were sentenced on Thursday in Berkshire Superior Court to up to three years in state prison.
Sid Eugene Dudley, 40, of Adams, and Stephen Sitton III, 37, of Hartford, Conn., made separate appearances before Judge Daniel A. Ford and pleaded guilty to single counts each of possession of cocaine and heroin with the intent to distribute and two counts each of conspiracy to violate state drug laws.
According to police and prosecutors, Dudley, Sitton, and 18-year-old Nita Gomes of Adams were arrested on Aug. 10 following the execution of a "no-knock" search warrant by the Berkshire County Drug Task Force at the room the three were staying in at the Dug-Out Motel on Howland Avenue (Route 8) in Adams.
Police said they seized 58 bags of heroin and 20 bag of crack with a street value totaling about $3,000.
The investigation into the trio's drug dealing activities at the motel began a month before the raid, according to court documents.
On Thursday, Second Assistant Berkshire District Attorney Robert W. Kinzer III told the court while this wasn't the biggest bust, it was a "significant case."
Ford sentenced both men to a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years in state prison in line with plea deals between Kinzer and the men's attorneys. Single counts of being present where heroin is kept was dismissed at the request of the DA's Office.
Attorney Trevor Davis, representing Dudley, said his client wanted to "move on" with his life. Thomas J. Donohue Jr., representing Sitton, said his client was taking responsibility for his actions.
Both defendants have already spent close to four months in jail on bail awaiting the outcome of their case.
Gomes, a heroin addict who was dating Dudley at the time of their arrest, actively participated in the drug dealing, according to what Kinzer told the court.
She appeared on Thursday for a pretrial hearing. Her attorney, Raymond J. Jacoub, said Gomes would likely be taking a plea as well. She is scheduled to be back in court on Feb. 13.
