PITTSFIELD -- It’s safe to say that Elizabeth Warren -- Massachusetts’ newly sworn U.S. Senator -- felt some of the enthusiasm her election generated in the Berkshires during a brief tour of downtown Pittsfield on Tuesday afternoon.
Local and state officials, along with a number of supporters and city residents Warren encountered during a walking tour, expressed high hopes for her term in the Senate -- sometimes in gushing tones.
"I’m so glad you won!" and "We were rooting so much for you!" were among comments the senator heard while walking with Mayor Daniel L. Bianchi, Berkshire state lawmakers, supporters and local officials. Warren was stopped often and asked to pose with supporters and admirers.
After a meeting at City Hall, the officials toured the central downtown, visiting shops, the Berkshire Museum and the Colonial Theater.
Earlier Tuesday, Warren opened a new regional office in Springfield. She said her staff also will continue the grassroots efforts forged during her election campaign in the form of outreach to all parts of the state to keep in touch with voters and hear their concerns.
