Two Williams College athletes are their sports' NESCAC players of the week, and both play for nationally ranked teams.

Mike Mayer is the men's basketball player of the week and had a standout week for the ninth-ranked Ephs. The Ephs were ninth last week as well.

John Wickman skates for the 10th-ranked Eph hockey team, and he is the men's player of the week.

Mayer averaged 22.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3 assists in a week that saw the Ephs lose to now 10th-ranked Amherst 83-67. But it was Mayer's steal that led to Taylor Epley's game-winning basket on Saturday when the Ephs knocked off third-ranked and previously unbeaten Middlebury 64-63.

Rochester is this week's No. 1 team.

Mayer is currently third in NESCAC in scoring at 17.4 points per game and leads the conference in rebounding at 8.0. Epley is second in NESCAC in scoring at 18.9.

Williams and Amherst have identical 17-2 records, and both are 6-0 in conference play.

Wickman scored three goals for the Ephs, who went 2-0 this past weekend. The senior from Dallas netted the game-winning goal in a 5-3 victory at Tufts on Friday night. He had two goals, including the game-winning goal, in Saturday's 5-0 win at Connecticut College.

The Williams hockey team moved up from 12th to 10th in the latest USCHO.com Division III national poll.
