PITTSFIELD -- Three years after opening his new restaurant on South Street, the owner of Mazzeo’s Ristorante has sold the eatery’s former building on Winter Street to a group headed by local restaurateur Jae Chung’s wife, Suzanne.
Anthony C. Mazzeo of Pittsfield sold the property at 7 Winter St. to Ten Dewey LLC for $158,000, according to documents on file at the Middle Berkshire Registry of Deeds. Suzanne Chung is listed as both the resident agent and secretary of Ten Dewey LLC, according to documents filed with the Secretary of State’s office. Catherine Levine of Lake Oswego, Ore., is listed as the LLC’s manager.
According to Anthony Mazzeo, plans call for a steakhouse to be operated at the Winter Street location. Jae Chung has operated several restaurants in Berkshire County, including Jae’s Asian Bistro, which he currently runs in the Lenox Commons on Route 7.
Mazzeo’s Ristorante had been located at 7 Winter St. from its inception in 1988 until it moved to 1015 South St. in February 2010. Three years ago, Anthony Mazzeo said that he planned to continue to use the former restaurant as a banquet hall and catering facility.
"I had a lot of things booked when I originally purchased South Street," Mazzeo said on Friday. "I was committed to weddings for a year. It came in handy a lot of times, but it got to be a lot of work.
Built in 1917, the Winter Street building contains 7,000 square feet -- 3,500 on each floor. The assessed value of the building and land, which is less than a half acre, is $266,900, according to the city assessor’s office.
"It served us well for 22 years," Anthony Mazzeo said. "It will be nice to see something in there and running every day. It’s a bittersweet ending, but it was a lot to carry."
Suzanne Chung did not return a telephone message seeking comment. She is also the president of Twin Sisters Food Service Inc., the family corporation that runs Jae’s Asian Bistro.
The corporation formed to run the new entity on Winter Street, Seven Winter Grille Inc., is headed by Patricia Ann Boynton of Becket, who is listed as the president, treasurer, secretary, vice president, and director of that domestic profit corporation, according to documents filed with the Secretary of State’s office. Seven Winter Grille was organized on Feb. 1.
Boynton could not be reached for comment.
