WORCESTER -- Lee is headed back to the state girls basketball championship game.
The Wildcats dominated Central Massachusetts champion Main South in the Division III state semifinals on Monday, leading by 20 after a quarter in a 69-37 rout. Lee's Stephanie Young had 30 points while Eileen Dooley added 24 in the victory. Dooley had 10 assists and eight rebounds while Young had nine boards inside Worcester's DCU Center.
"I think we just had a lot of energy going out," Dooley said. "We were really excited. Our plan was to run and all of our energy just went with us and we just ran with it."
Lee was in control from the start, forcing the Cougars into five straight turnovers in the opening quarter. That led to a 10-0 run and the Wildcats were ahead 27-7 after the first quarter. The lead was 24 by the half and ballooned to 30 in the second half.
Main South got 20 points from Sam O'Gara and Aretha Sullivan added 13.
Lee will play in the state championship game on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. for the third time in four years. The Wildcats will meet Archbishop Williams High School of Braintree, who beat Pentucket 52-38 in the other D-III state semifinal Monday.
