PITTSFIELD -- A North Adams man police say had 22 grams of cocaine, marijuana, and an illegal handgun in his apartment pleaded not guilty on Thursday to seven charges and remains free on $1,500 bail.
The lawyer for David J. Rosander, 30, of Hoosac Street, says she will likely be fighting the warrantless search of her client's apartment. Police alleged they found the items during a "protective sweep" last month.
In Berkshire Superior Court, Rosander denied single counts of trafficking in cocaine, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, illegal ownership of a firearm, possession of ammunition without a license, improper storage of a firearm and assault and battery.
Attorney Lee D. Flournoy told Judge John A. Agostini it started as a parking dispute that led to police being called.
She said three women from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts had parked a car in Rosander's spot and that he blocked them in with his vehicle. An argument ensued and one of the women damaged Rosander's property.
Flournoy said her client called police as, apparently, one of the women did as well.
According to the North Adams Police, they responded to the scene and were told by one of the women she had been hit by the defendant.
Rosander allowed the police into the apartment, said Assistant Berkshire District Attorney Gregory M. Barry.

Flournoy told the court that police did more than a "protective sweep" since they were digging through laundry and looking in cupboards.
A pretrial hearing was scheduled for July 16.
