PITTSFIELD -- City police said they have received calls from about two dozen people saying their vehicles were broken into Friday evening and Saturday morning on the northeast side of Pittsfield.

Police are investigating a rash of thefts involving stolen wallets, purses, and other valuable possessions taken from vehicles on Springside Avenue and some surrounding streets. There were also thefts on Benedict Road and Stanley Avenue, Sgt. Michael Maddalena said.

There has been no connection established between the thefts and other recent thefts, Maddalena said.

On Friday, Massachusetts State Police alerted residents in Southern Berkshire County towns about house burglaries that have taken place primarily in Richmond, but also in Lanesborough, Stockbridge, Otis, Becket and Sandisfield.

Maddalena said they have found wallets and purses thrown on the ground after possessions of value had been taken.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to call the Pittsfield Police at (413) 448-9723.
