PITTSFIELD -- A man was arrested after a car chase that wound through the heart of Pittsfield and eventually led to a foot chase on Thursday night, authorities said.

Shane Hitchcock, 24, of Pittsfield, is facing multiple charges after fleeing from police, hitting another vehicle and running "numerous" traffic lights and stop signs, according to Sgt. James Roccabruna.

Police tried to pull Hitchcock over for speeding just after 7 p.m., but he wouldn't stop. Sgt. Kipp Steinman was the responding officer.

During the pursuit, Hitchcock hit a car on East Street and kept going, Roccabruna said. Additional law enforcement was called to the scene. No injuries were reported.

The car chase ended when Hitchcock stopped in the Berkshire Hills Country Club parking lot on Benedict Road and tried to flee on foot, Roccabruna said.

Hitchcock faces charges of operating to endanger, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, resisting arrest, speeding and operating without a license, Roccabruna said. The case is still under investigation.

As of Thursday evening, Hitchcock was being hailed on $10,000 bond, but that was expected to be revisited this morning in court.
