PITTSFIELD -- A city man is being held on $2,500 bail after he allegedly kicked in the front door of a home, which injured a 6-year-old-girl, and then attacked her mother.
According to the Pittsfield Police Department, Michael Rathbun, 30, kicked in the front door of 60 Spring St. just after 1 p.m. on Saturday. The door hit a the girl in the head.
Once inside, Rathbun allegedly knocked the girl's 30-year-old mother to the ground and kicked her repeatedly in the ribs.
Police said that when they arrived, Rathbun was gone. The child was crying and had a large bump on her head. The mother had red marks on her right side, police said.
The woman refused medical attention for herself and her child, according to police.
Pittsfield Police Sgt. Matthew Hill said that Rathbun and the woman know each other.
Rathbun was later arrested without incident and charged with two felony counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (the door and his shod feet) and breaking and entering.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in Central Berkshire District Court on Tuesday.
It was unclear whether he has retained a lawyer. Police did not have an address for Rathbun.
