The Pittsfield Chapter of UNICO recently held its scholarship awards ceremony at the Italian American Club in Pittsfield, in conjunction with the Paul J. Capitanio Jr. Memorial Football Scholarship award ceremony.

Since 1987, the Pittsfield UNICO chapter has given out more than $238,000 in scholarships throughout Berkshire County. The ceremony was the culmination of the chapter's fundraising efforts throughout the year which included a wine tasting, a golf tournament and other events.

The UNICO Scholarship Committee, chaired by Fran Marinaro, awarded 10 scholarships at $1,000 each, three Baseball Hall of Fame scholarships at $1,000 each, and two Continuing Education scholarship at $500 each.

The Paul J. Capitanio Jr. Memorial Football Scholarship committee, chaired by past UNICO president Paul Capitanio Sr., awarded three scholarships at $1,000 each.

The Paul J. Capitanio Jr. Memorial Football Scholarship Committee has awarded $24,000 in scholarships over the past nine years and has raised funds through its annual golf tournament and other donations.

The Pittsfield UNICO recipients are: Rudolph Sondrini Scholarship to Daniel Garrity, a St. Joseph's High School graduate and the son of James and Susan Garrity. Daniel will be attending Westfield State College.

The Edmund Grasso and Hon. Francis J. Quirico Scholarship to Gabrielle Schnopp, a St. Joseph's High School graduate and the daughter of Eric and Candace Schnopp. Gabrielle will be attending Berkshire Community College.

The Louis Shogry and Edward Christiano Scholarship to Amanda Ruberto, a Pittsfield High School graduate and the daughter of Pasquale and Tracy Ruberto. Amanda will be attending Worcester Polytechnical Institute.

The Joseph Colombari Scholarship to Jennie Tullock, a Pittsfield High School graduate and the daughter of John Tullock and Paula King. Jennie will be attending Berkshire Community College.

The Honorable Anthony J. Ruberto Scholarship to Sydney Deluce, a Pittsfield High School graduate and the daughter of Carl and Tracy Deluce. Sydney will be attending Johnson and Whales.

The George Cavallero and William Mufatti Scholarship to Molly Barbarotta, a Taconic High School graduate and the daughter of Chris and Susan Barbarotta. Molly will be attending the University of Central Florida.

The Wayne Montagna Scholarship to Alyssa Latimer, a Taconic High School graduate and the daughter of Marc and Michelle Latimer. Alyssa will be attending High Point University

The John Marchetto Scholarship to Pietro Hogue, a Taconic High School graduate and the son of Tom and Leslie Hogue. Pietro will be attending Western New England University.

The Paul A. Tamburello Scholarship to Cory White, a Taconic High School graduate and the son of William White and Catherine Collins. Cory will be attending Western New England University.

The William Sarracco Scholarship to Lauren Bartini, a Lenox High School graduate and daughter of Tom and Anne Bartini. Lauren will be attending the University of Miami.

The Baseball Hall of Fame Gary "Red" Soldato Scholarship to Chanler Hospot, a St. Joseph's High School graduate and the daughter of Kurt and Darlyn Hospot. Chanler will be attending Endicott College.

The Baseball Hall of Fame Francis Sanginetti Scholarship to Brian Bonacquisti, a Taconic High School graduate and the son of Jeff and Jill Bonacquisti. Brian will be attending Worcester State College

The Baseball Hall of Fame Edward DeAngelo Scholarship to Myles Candelet, a Taconic High School graduate and the son of George and Lisa Candelet. Myles will be attending Westfield State College.

The Ido Merlini Scholarship for Continuing Education to Matthew Hoag, the son of Lisa and Brian Hoag. Matthew is attending Berkshire Community College.

The Ido Merlini Scholarship for Continuing Education to Angelina Mangiardi, the daughter of Bill and Sherry Mangiardi. Angelina is attending The Fashion Institute of Technology.

The Paul J. Capitanio Jr. Memorial Football Scholarship recipients:

Tim Murray, a Pittsfield High School graduate and the son of Joe and Anne Murray.  Tim is undecided at this point as to his choice of colleges.

Jonathan Bianchi, a St. Joseph's High School graduate and the son of Gary and Cathy Bianchi. Jonathan will be attending Cushing Academy.

Ludwig Jean, a Pittsfield High School graduate and the son of Rosalie Jean. Ludwig will be attending Berkshire Community College.
