BLANDFORD (AP) - Blandford's seven volunteer firefighters who resigned earlier this week have returned to duty under a new temporary fire chief for the town of about 1,200 people.
WGGB-TV (http://bit.ly/16rDGii ) reported that the Blandford selectboard held an emergency meeting Friday and appointed Brian Care interim fire chief while the firefighters said they would go back to work.
The firefighters resigned Tuesday in a dispute between Fire Chief Robert DeCoteau and the selectboard over who gets to appoint new members. The Friday meeting didn't resolve the dispute, but both the firefighters and selectboard members said they are willing to work together to reach an understanding.
The board also plans to begin a review of Brian Care's qualifications for a permanent position.
