NORTH ADAMS -- Two Berkshire County high school coaches will be joining the coaching roster at MCLA this fall.
Stephen Terpak, who is the hockey coach at Taconic, is the new golf coach of the Trailblazers. Melissa Alexicko, the girls tennis coach at Lenox, will take over as the MCLA men's tennis coach.
In addition, baseball coach Jeff Puleri is now an assistant athletic director and will be involved in fundraising and development opportunities in athletics along with his baseball responsibilities. Hailey Katcher has also joined the staff as an assistant athletic trainer.
"We are really excited to hire two very qualified coaches and add another trainer to our medical staff," MCLA athletic director Scott Nichols said in a statement. "All of them will provide tremendous enthusiasm into our programs that will greatly benefit our student athletes."
Terpak said he is looking to build on a season that saw the Trailblazers finish second in the MCLA and Westfield Invitationals and fifth in the Skidmore Invitational.
"My goal in the next 3 to 5 years is to build a program where we don't have to do much recruiting," said Terpak, who has been the head golf pro at the Donnybrook Country Club in Lanesborough and currently teaches golf at Berkshire Community College.
Terpak said he will continue to coach the Taconic hockey program, which now co-ops with both Pittsfield and St. Joseph high schools, because there are no conflicts.
"It doesn't interfere or overlap at all," he said. "I find it's a nice transition."
Alexicko is the tennis director at the Country Club of Pittsfield. As the coach in Lenox, she led the Millionaires to Western Mass. titles in 2010-11, while the Millionaires fell to Monument Mountain last spring. She also coached at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, and was an assistant at Wright State University, also in Dayton.
The MCLA season conflicts with the high school tennis season. Alexicko could not be reached Friday to find out if she'll handle both assignments or step down at Lenox.
