PITTSFIELD -- The Pittsfield Chapter of UNICO held their scholarship awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 19, at the Italian American Club. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the Paul J. Capitanio Jr. Memorial Football Scholarship award ceremony.

Since 1987 the Pittsfield UNICO chapter has given out over $225,000 in scholarships throughout Berkshire County. The ceremony was the culmination of the chapter’s fund-raising efforts throughout the year.

The UNICO Scholarship Committee, chaired by Fran Marinaro, awarded 10 scholarships at $1,000 each, two Baseball Hall of Fame scholarships at $1,000 each and one Continuing Education Schol arship at $1,000.

The Paul J. Capitanio Jr. Memorial Football Scholarship committee, chaired by past UNICO president Paul Cap itanio Sr., awarded three scholarships at $1,000 each.

The Paul J. Capitanio Jr. Memorial Football Schol arship Comm ittee has awarded $21,000 in scholarships over the past eight years and has raised funds through its annual golf tournament and other donations.

The Pittsfield UNICO recipients are:

Anah Pignatelli received the Honorable Francis J. Quirico Scholarship. Pig natelli is a Lenox High School graduate and the daughter of William "Smitty" and Holly Pignatelli. She will be attending Endicott College.

Emily Cooper received the Edmund Grasso and Francis Sanginetti Scholarship.

Coo per is a Hoosac Valley High School graduate and the daughter of Jay and Terri Cooper. She will be attending the University of Mass achusetts at Amherst.

Natalia Renzi received the Louis Shogry and Edward Christiano Scholarship. Renzi is a Mount Greylock Regional High School graduate and the daughter of Joe and Leslie Renzi. She will be attending Endicott College.

Anna Campetti received the Joseph Colombari Scholarship. Campetti is a Monument Mountain Regional High School graduate and the daughter of Anthony and Rebecca Campetti. She will be attending Westfield State College.

Katie Bradley received the Honorable Anthony J. Ruberto Scholarship. Bradley is a Pittsfield High School graduate and the daughter of Scott and Shelley Bradley. She will be attending the University of New Hampshire.

Codey Lombardi received the George Cavallero and William Mufatti Scholarship. Lombardi is a Taconic High School graduate and the son of Robert and Jackie Lombardi. He will be attending San Diego State University.

Amanda Massoero received the Edward DeAngelo and Wayne Montagna Scholarship. Massoero is a Taconic High School graduate and the daughter of Kenneth and Patricia Massoero. She will be attending Westfield State College.

Eva Handerek received the John Marchetto Scholarship. Handerek is a Taconic High School graduate and the daughter of Theodore and Marianne Handerek. She will be attending Scotland/University of St. Andrews.

Jennifer Lynch received the Paul A. Tamburello Schol arship. Lynch is a St. Joseph’s High School graduate and the daughter of David and Patricia Lynch. She will be attending Providence College.

Gabrielle Arpante received the William Sarracco Schol arship. Arpante is a Pittsfield High School graduate and the daughter of Robert and Tracey Arpante. She will be attending Salem State College.

Anthony Traversa received the Baseball Hall of Fame, Gary "Red" Soldato Scholarship. Traversa is a Pittsfield High School graduate and the son of Brian and Christine Traversa. He will be attending the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Thomas Cracolici received the Baseball Hall of Fame, Rudolph Sondrini Scholarship. Cracolici is a PHS graduate and the son of Anthony and Tammy Cracolici. He will be attending Wentworth Institute.

Devyn Yurko received the Ido Merlini Scholarship for Continuing Education. Yurko is the daughter of William and Laura Yurko. She is attending UMass Amherst.

The Paul J. Capitanio Jr. Memorial Football Schol arship Recipients:

Brady Red Aitken, a PHS graduate and the son of Scott and Wendy Aitken, will be attending either Western New England University or Provi dence College.

Derek Glass, a PHS graduate and the son of Walter and Terri Glass, will be attending Berk shire Community College, then Westfield State College.

Trevor Jamross, a Wahconah High School graduate and the son of Mark and Linda Jamross, will be attending the University of Mass achusetts at Amherst.
