PITTSFIELD -- On Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Conte Community School, Juan Cofield, president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, New England Area Conference, presided over a well attended meeting that launched the reactivation of the Berkshire County branch of the NAACP after a lapse of several years.

Cofield complimented the members for uniting to activate the branch.

Consistent with the National NAACP, the branch will focus on the NAACP priorities to achieve equality of rights and eliminate race and ethnicity prejudice.

These priorities were also referred to as "game changers." They include educational achievement, civic engagement, criminal justice, economic development, health advocacy, including environmental justice, and political empowerment.

The following officers were elected: Will Singleton, president; Luci Leonard, vice president; Santha Willis, secretary; Stephanie Wright, assistant secretary; Duane Booth, treasurer; and Joyce Armstrong and Henry Lee, at-large members.
